Vegan MOFO is back - Day 1

Everyone's  gears are in motion for the marathon return of VEGAN MOFO, and I'm no exception. I've spent the last few days rummaging around the interwebz and cookbooks of all persuasions, searching for ideas and recipes that are, truthfully, kick ass! On an impulse I modified my expected theme from sandwiches to food & drinks named after people. I'm really eager to get this theme started, and I've got a solid list of dishes, drinks and snacks to share. Despite the fact that I was really looking forward to ingesting an entire mounthful (humor!) of sammies, I think this theme serves up a multiplicity of meals full of creativity and novelty. Plus, I'll still be including some sandwiches - conveniently named after John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich - and the like, such as the Reuben and Kaiser Rolls!

At the moment, I don't have anything prepared (whomp, whomp), but I do have a list of foods and drinks you can expect to see over the next month. Take a look:

Omelette variations - Andre Theuriet & Arnold Bennett
Battenberg Cake
Bearnaise & Bechamel sauce
Bellinis
Carpaccio
Clementines
Cobb salad
Bananas Foster
Graham crackers & flour
Granny Smith apples
Janssons Frestelse ("Jansonne's Temptation")
Kaiser rolls
Lamington cakes
Mapo Doufu
Margarita
Pizza Margherita
Bloody Mary
Peach Melba
Reuben sandwich

...and more!

  4. Solid theme. I dig it.

Personally, I am trying to dwindle my pantries.

  5. I never would have thought about Fettuccine Alfredo being named after a person. And Bartlet pears. You could do Haas avocados or practically any kind of apple. And Bundt cake. You picked a really fun and flexible theme.

  6. ViB, Rose and Erinwiko, thanks for the enthusiasm!

Dawn, I'm also struggling to use items in my pantries - I've got so many dried beans that need soaking!

Mollyjade, Haas avocados will definitely make an appearance!

  7. I love your idea, so creative. That is my favorite party about MoFo, so many amazing ideas I wish I thought up. Are you going to include Steak Diane as well?
